Maumee & Perrysburg, OH

Perrysburg
Nestled on the southern shore of the Maumee River, Perrysburg, Ohio has long been one of the most popular communities in our area. The personal finance website WalletHub recently named Perrysburg the #1 best place to raise a family in Ohio. One of the reasons Perrysburg is so sought-after is because the public schools rank #34 out of all Ohio school districts.

Perrysburg’s wonderful downtown is a combination of local shops, restaurants, and offices. The neighborhoods surrounding downtown are filled with historic homes that are quick to sell on the market. Homes built before 1918 sold 28% faster than newer Perrysburg listings last year, as many residents adore the charming, walkable location.

Another rich piece of Perrysburg’s history is Fort Meigs, a War of 1812 battle site. The park includes a full-size 10 acre replica of the fort, a museum and education center, and frequent reenactments. If you’re looking for recreational activities, Municipal Park and the Fort Meigs YMCA have plenty of options. Another convenient Perrysburg amenity is Levis Commons, an outdoor mall with a variety of restaurants, retailers, a movie theater, a Hilton hotel, and rental and owner-occupied housing.

Maumee
Located on the Maumee River, the city of Maumee was once a major shipping port linking the East and West. The quaint suburb has a lot to offer for those considering buying in the area. The Ohio Chamber of Commerce ranks Maumee #28 on the list of “Best Cities to Live in Ohio” and Maumee was formerly named an “All American City” by the National Civic League.

The Maumee School District is ranked in the top 33% of all Ohio school districts. The high school boasts a state-of-the-art Performing Arts Center that seats nearly 800 as well as a brand new football stadium. Kazmaier Stadium, named after Maumee alumni and Heisman recipient Richard Kazmaier, underwent a nearly $2 million renovation in 2018.

Uptown Maumee is lined with long-standing small businesses. Some local favorites include Dale’s Bar and Grill, The Village Idiot, Jacky’s Depot, Georgette’s Grounds and Gifts, and the iconic Maumee Indoor Theatre.

Monclova
Monclova Township was established in 1853 and currently has a population of just over 12,000. The area is part of Anthony Wayne school district, which is in the top 50 of all Ohio school districts. It’s home to some of the most expensive real estate in Northwest Ohio with an average sale price of over $340,000.

Monclova is a great place for golfers with two courses inside the township limits, Brandywine Country Club and Fallen Timbers Fairways. Those who love the outdoors will find plenty to do with the Wabash Cannonball Bike Trail, Fallen Timbers Battlefield Site, numerous neighborhood parks, and the close proximity of Side Cut Metropark, Swan Creek, and Louis W. Campbell State Nature Preserve.

The Shops at Fallen Timbers is an open-air mall with a diverse offering of retailers, restaurants, specialty shops, and a movie theater. Monclova is conveniently close to the Toledo Express Airport and Ohio Turnpike.

Waterville
Waterville, Ohio is a small town with a big history. Located on the Maumee River, it currently has 8 properties on the National Register of Historic Places, as well as the Waterville Main Street Historic District, which encompasses an additional 25 properties. Waterville is within the Anthony Wayne school district. AW High School has an A grade on the Ohio School Report Card and the district is rated #47 out of Ohio’s 608 school districts.

One of the biggest perks of living in Waterville is the numerous community parks, many of which offer stunning views of the river. Some local favorites are Pray Park, Bend View Metropark, Farnsworth Metropark, and the Roche de Boeuf area within Farnsworth.

Its charming downtown houses a slew of local businesses. Some favorites in the area are Dale’s Diner, Shawn’s Irish Tavern, 3rd Street Blooms, Garden Smiles by Carruth Studio, and Third Street Cigar.

Whitehouse
Whitehouse, Ohio is quickly becoming one of the most desirable and fastest-growing communities in NW Ohio. New developments have been popping up in recent years, but the village remains tranquil as it’s nestled between rural communities with long stretches of scenic routes. Its quaint downtown is lined with small businesses and dining.

Whitehouse is within the Anthony Wayne school district. AW High School has an A grade on the Ohio School Report Card and the district is rated #47 out of Ohio’s 608 school districts.

Whitehouse is the perfect community for nature lovers. Oak Openings Preserve is the largest Toledo Metropark spanning between Whitehouse and Swanton with roughly 5,000 acres. The Nature Conservancy once named the region one of the 200 “last greatest places on Earth.” The Butterfly House, located on Wheeler Farms, is another local treasure that allows visitors to observe over 100 butterfly species throughout the season. Wheeler Farms is also a favorite stop for seasonal events, such as its corn maze and Christmas tree farm.
